The Small Quarter is our home, next door to the Ravensbury on Mitcham Common. It's where we build our sets, dream up creative projects, and balance everything we do with sustainability and ecology.

The Small Quarter

Our dream is a permanent eco-friendly building for carpentry and making, learning and volunteering - that the whole community can share. There will be messy play for kids, an outdoor activity space for workshops, events... and your ideas.

We run building projects from our workshop, harvest rainwater and host local artists and sculptors. We grow fresh local food for our neighbours the New Horizons Foodbank, and for volunteers to take home. We have five beehives of bees busy pollinating the garden and flowering plants on Mitcham Common, and get delicious honey we sell to support our work.

We run workshops to share beekeeping and food growing skills, and love it when other local groups see a way they can use The Small Quarter: Mencap come and garden on a Saturday, and a local parent is hoping to start a forest school for homeschooled children in the new year.

Community carpentry and growing vegetables.

Next we want to:

  • Install solar panels to lower our running costs and our reliance on fossil fuels

  • Build a wooden shelter to host community groups and run workshops

  • Work with a landscape designer to make the most of the land before we lay permanent wheel-chair friendly paths

  • Make our new compost toilet wheelchair accessible with grab bars and a ramp

Can you help? We’re looking for people with skills and experience to lend, to get us to the next stage.
