G+D creates for Canons Autumn Arts Fair

Earlier this summer, our brilliant Head of Build worked with volunteers from The Wheel Merton to turn re-purposed wood into five outdoor art displays for Canons Autumn Art Fair. Over one week, Gary supported experienced makers and first timers alike to brush up on their carpentry skills, building the displays from scratch to his original design.

This week, alongside the photography, painting and other visual arts created by local Mitcham artists, the displays will also hold a secret key to a piece of sonic art, created by Mitcham residents with musician and composer Mei Kirby, music facilitator and songwriter Leni Pikrodafnis, and supported by G+D Creative Director Jo Tyabji. Audio recordings of passersby singing Mitcham’s favourite songs - the ‘heritage tracks’ they’d want to pass down to the next generation - as well as new songs created by adults and children at Mitcham Library, formed the starting point for Mei to create an incredible sound artwork - the Song for Mitcham.

You can hear the Song for Mitcham online at www.thepalace.live
